About Hugon Pappila

Pappila is Finnish for parsonage. The historical building belonged to local parish. After it became obsolete for their purposes and was aquired by us, the building, with its gallant history, has turned over a new, travel-oriented leaf.

Catering at the Parsonage

We can provide coffee and catering service for events for up to a busful of people (pre-booking required). Combine a South Karelian culinary experience with a trip to the Kollaa and Simo Häyhä -museum, for example!

Presentations about the history of the Parsonage, the Vehniäinen reconnaissance unit, and the activities of Infantry Regiment 27 of the 18th Division during the Continuation War are also available by arrangement.

The Parsonage served as a base for a terrain reconnaissance unit during the Interim Peace in the summers of 1940 and 1941.

From Midsummer 1941 until early August 1941, the headquarters of Infantry Regiment 27 was located at the Parsonage, while more than 8,000 men and women were stationed in the surrounding area preparing for the Continuation War. The regiment had been formed from the region of the Pirkka-Häme Civil Guard District.

The division was commanded by Colonel Aaro Pajari, whose headquarters were located at the neighbouring parsonage. Infantry Regiment 27 was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Lauri Haanterä.
